after a scene straight out of the movie of armageddon as russia is hit by a meteor strike sparking an explosion with the power of an atomic bomb of. welcome to "america live," what a friday, everyone, i am h megyn kelly. a bright light scene racing across the sky as the ten-ton meteor enters earth's atmosphere travelling at least 33,000 miles per hour. imagine looking up and seeing this. this video of a roadway showing, look at the sky lighting up, bright white as a large fireball explodes. the sonic blast shattering windows, shards of glass and debris rain down on panicked local and that's how most of the injuries happened. up close to a thousand people injured. and some thinking the worst, thinking the world was coming to an end. the sun came up across the globe in russia. a ten ton meteor hit the earth. and then, later on, another space rock went whizzing by the earth. our jodi hernandez has more from the space and science center in oakland. >> reporter: you're looking at video taken by nasa showing a 150-foot asteroid as seen from australia this morning coming closer to earth than any rock its size. >> it sounded like a safeway, a supermarket, or an olympic sized swimming pool in size. the mass is 130,000 metric tons, which is equivalent to 60,000 suvs, so, you know, it's a big piece of rock. >> reporter: but the much anticipated asteroid is getting overshadowed by a smaller meteor that actually made its way to earth. these incredible images show the ten ton meteor floating over russia smashing windows and injuring hundreds. but experts say the cosmic rock completely unrelated to the da-14 asteroid. >> it's actually been a double whammy day. a lot of interesting things going on. but it is just a coincidence. it's not marking the beginning of a rain of asteroids coming at us. >> i'm thankful for that. >> report

escaping russia's new ban on adoptions to the united states. it went into effect on january 1st. part of russia's retaliation for a set of human rights sanctions passed by the u.s. last year. americans have adopted over 60,000 russian children since the end of the soviet union. but russian officials have pointed to the cases of 19 children reportedly abused by american parents. ordinary russians reached out to offer support. one woman gave kendra and jason $1,000 to help cover expenses. another dropped off a pair of warm boots for paulina. finally, authorities agreed to allow about 50 children to travel to the u.s., including paulina. yet hundreds more adoptions remain stuck. those families may never see the children again. as she prepared to leave moscow, paulina was excited. practicing her english, and playing with her new gift. >> she's learning that it's forever and we'll be there when she goes to sleep and wakes up. >> reporter: when the plane touched down in houston, paulina skaggs was finally home. >> and good to see that story, but keep in mine that hundreds of cases are still

, clean-up of another sort underway in russia that. is where a massive relief effort is continuing following that shocking and devastating and thankfully rare meteor strike that happened in this country. you see that video of that thing streak across the sky? crews are replacing many of the thousands of broken windows. volunteers are distributing warm clothes to the people. 4,000 work -- 24,000 workers deployed to help out. the shock wave damaged buildings all across the region. the high temperature barely reaches 10 degrees fahrenheit. more than 1200 people were injured and dozens still in the hospital right now. take a look at that streaking across the sky. one teacher said she -- she did her best to keep her students safe during moment of impact. >> i told the students to move from the windows and not long after that, the meteor exploded. they were all fine. however, when they got back to their seats, a piece of glass flew above their head. i was standing next to the chair, then being pushed to the door. i fell down and didn't know what happened. >> some chunks created this hole
